WordCamp Orlando 2017

Updated: February 5, 2019 //

WordCamp Orlando 2017 was held on November 11, 12th at the UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management. WordCamp is an annual conference that focuses on everything WordPress, organized by the community and put on by WordPress users. Everyone from casual users who need help with their website to core developers participate, share ideas and get to know each other.

In this presentation, we focused on different image formats and steps to follow before uploading them to a website. We set up a process to prepare images for the web and went over tools to measure loading time. We also looked at some examples of before and after image optimization.

Every year the weight of an average site keeps increasing, mainly because of image sizes. Optimizing images is the biggest win when it comes to your website speed.

Direct link to the slides from the presentation: “Don’t let images weigh down your site”.

Here are the resources and links that I mentioned in this presentation:

Free tools to measure website speed:

GT Metrix
Pingdom Tools
Webpagetest.org

Resources to optimize images:

Image optimization and compression:
Tiny PNG – Web Interface
Kraken.io – Web Interface
EWWW Image Optimizer
Compress JPEG & PNG images – WordPress Plugin
Imsanity – image resizing

Thank you, everyone, who came to hear me speak. Let me know if you have any questions.
